Babson Park, FL - The No. 5 Webber Warriors competed in day one of the AVCA Small College Championship tournament on Friday. Day one consisted of two rounds of pool play to set the seeding for day two's bracket.
WIU was slated to take on SUNC foe Truett McConnell first, where the Warriors took game one 3-1.
An injury prevented the Warriors from competing in the three-pair, giving TMU a 1-0 lead.
Mariah Clements and Andrea Padilla got the Warriors on the board with a two-set win at the five seed to even the score. The pair took set one convincingly, as they held the Bears to just six points. TMU put up more of a fight in set two, but the Warriors came out on top 21-17.
Nadia Reid and Kiersten Tisdale continued their reign as they gave the Warriors the lead with a swift win at the twos. In set one, the duo held the Bears to eight points. TMU was more competitive in set two, but were unable to dispose of the Warriors, as Reid and Tisdale notched a 12-16 win.
Webber sealed the win for the Warriors as they took down the Bear's number four pair. Abigail Baxter and Delanie Johnson were dominant as they defeated TMU in two 21-15 sets.
TMU defeated St. Andrews in the second pool play game before the Warriors played the Knights.
Webber notched their second win over St. Andrews. Abigail Baxter and Delanie Johnson got things done at the four-seed, taking down the Knights in two quick sets. The duo took set one 21-12, before taking set two 21-11.
Lili Arnold and Janna Morrissey kept the Warriors' momentum up with a swift win at the ones. Webber's top pair gave Webber a 2-0 lead with a straight set win (21-15, 21-18).
Nadia Reid and Kiersten Tisdale kept their streak alive with a 21-15, 21-19 win to give the Warriors' their second win of the weekend.
The Warriors will return to work tomorrow, April 13th as they continue fighting for their 4th AVCA title.
