St. Petersburg, FL – The No. 5 Webber Warriors traveled to take on NCAA DII foes Florida Southern and Eckerd. Strong starts in both matches were not enough as Webber fell 3-2 in both matches.
The Warriors got things rolling with wins at the two and four pairs to gain an early 2-0 lead. Nadia Reid and Kiersten Tisdale played in the twos spot and won in straight sets. After trading leads in the first set, the duo took it 21-19 before taking the second stanza 21-16. After dropping the first set 17-21, Delanie Johnson and Abigail Baxter came back to take the second one 21-19 to force a tiebreaker. In the third set, the fours for Webber came away with the hard-fought win as they took down Eckerd 17-15.
The Mocs then took the final three sets to take match one 3-2.
Webber continued the second match of the day against Eckerd in similar fashion. Nadia Reid and Kiersten Tisdale took down the Triton's twos pair in straight sets. The duo took set one easily 21-11, but the Tritons fought harder in set two, but the Warriors were able to pull away with the 23-21 win.
Delanie Johnson and Abigail Baxter added another point for the Warriors as they defeated the Tritons in three sets. The Warriors' duo took set one with a quick 21-16 win, before the Tritons flipped the score in the second set. Johnson and Baxter were able to come back and take set three 15-12 to give the Warriors a 2-0 lead.
The Tritons took straight set wins at the one pair and five pair to make it 2-2. Kendall Steinert and Leyni Young dropped the first set and then came from behind to take set two 21-19. Both pairs traded leads until Eckerd came away with the third-set win.
Webber will be back in the sand on Thursday, March 14th as they are set to host Barry University at 11 AM and Stevenson University at 3 PM.
