Box Score CLEVELAND, Ga. (February 10, 2023) - Following a defeat to Division-II Edward Waters, it was back to conference action for the Webber International University men's volleyball team as they battled the Bears of Truett McConnell University on Friday night. The Warriors were firing on all cylinders as they bounced back with a 3-0 (25-11. 25-22. 25-13) sweep over the Bears for their third-straight conference victory.

The Warriors (3-1 overall, 3-0 AAC) tallied 34 kills across the three sets with a hitting percentage of .221. Truett McConnell (1-5, 0-2) struggled offensively as they hit -.072 for the match. This was due in part to the fact that Webber's defense amassed 11 total blocks.

Webber took no time finding their groove in this one as they started off the match on a 9-1 run to begin the first set. The Warriors kept their foot on the gas with two more big runs to extend their lead to 23-8. The Bears then scored three-straight but were too far behind as Webber closed out the set thanks to a kill by Jackson Arnold followed by a service ace from Andrea Di Paola.

Set number two proved to be the most competitive of the match as Truett McConnell took an early 7-2 lead. The Warriors trailed 8-3 before a kill by Lachlan Diamond kick-started a 6-0 run that earned them the lead at 9-8. The two sides continued to battle it out with the Bears taking the lead once again at 15-14. A 6-2 run by Webber earned them a 20-17 lead, but Truett McConnell responded with three-straight points to level the game. Leading 23-22, a kill by Wesley Blazek followed by a combined block of Tinashe Makona and Kevin McCarthy sealed the set victory for Webber.

Holding a two-point lead at 9-7, the Warriors went on a 6-1 run to jump out to a seven-point advantage at 15-8. Webber led 17-12 before going on an 8-1 run to end the set and complete the sweep.

Diamond led the Warriors with a team-high eight kills and added a season-high seven total blocks on the defensive end as well. He was followed by Gunter Perea Quevedo and Blazek each with four. Peyten Young recorded his first double-double of the season after tallying 18 assists and 10 digs while adding three kills and two total blocks.

The Warriors now have an 11-day break as they prepare for a conference-matchup against their Crooked Lake rivals, Warner University. The Royals are receiving votes and sitting just outside the NAIA Coaches' Top-15 Poll. Webber will travel to the Turner Athletic Center for the match on Wednesday, February 22nd at 7 p.m.
