Marietta, GA – The Webber International Men's Volleyball team battled early but could not hold off Truett McConnell on Friday afternoon, falling 3-1 in conference play. The Warriors opened the match with a strong first-set win before the Bears answered by taking the next three sets, 23-25, 25-16, 25-16, 25-22.
Webber came out sharp in the opening frame, using a balanced attack and late composure to edge out the first set. The Warriors broke a 23-23 tie with back-to-back points to take the early advantage, highlighted by steady play from Noah Riascos, Janis Dobelis and Brennan Porter.
Truett McConnell turned the momentum in the second and third sets, taking control with efficient hitting and strong play at the net. The Bears hit .305 as a team for the match and totaled 59 kills, while Webber was held to a .104 attack percentage.
The Warriors showed fight in the fourth set, climbing back from a late deficit and pulling within 23-22, but Truett McConnell closed out the final two points to secure the match. Webber finished with 37 kills, 35 assists, 31 digs and 5.0 team blocks in the loss.
Riascos led the Warriors offensively with nine kills on a .412 hitting percentage, while Dobelis and Gavin Patterson added eight kills apiece. Talan Stephens dished out 20 assists and added six digs with one ace, and Mateus Haubrich contributed 11 assists and five digs. Max Kuhn paced the back row with eight digs.
Truett McConnell was led by Alex Bosman with 15 kills, while Adam Schuman and Eduardo Andrade added 12 kills each. Christopher Zambrana directed the offense with 48 assists as the Bears improved to 5-11 overall and 4-5 in conference action. Webber moved to 1-12 on the season.
