Box Score Miami Gardens, FL - The Warriors traveled to Miami Gardens to take on the Florida Memorial Lions. After a tough battle, Webber fell to the Lions in a 34-29 nail-bighter. Trent Grotjan got the start at Quarterback, collecting 140 yards and two touchdowns.
Webber's defense came out strong forcing a quick three-and-out to give the Warriors the ball back with just over 11 minutes left in the first quarter.A 12-yard catch-and-run by Antonio Dawson set the Warriors up for their first scoring drive of the game. A catch by Reynald Fleurival and rush by Terry Weems Jr. gave the Warriors the first down in Lions territory. A 13-yard Grotjan pass to Jordan Griffin gave Webber the 6-0 lead, before a perfect extra-point attempt by Zachary Van Fleet made it a complete 7 points.
A penalty-driven second quarter allowed the Lions to score three touchdowns, but the dynamic defense held them to only 20 points, forcing two far left extra point attempts. Fleurival's 33-yard catch and run set the Warriors up for their second scoring drive of the game. Grotjan completed a pass to Jordan Taylor before two rushes by Griffin put the Warriors in the endzone once again, making the score 14-14. A 29-yard touchdown by the Lions made it 20-14 at the half.
The Lions opened the second half of play with a 62 yard drive to make it 26-14. A 77-yard interception by Antonio Johnson gave the Warriors the ball on the Lions' 16 yardline. Weems Jr. brought it in with an 11 yard rush to make it 20-26, before Van Fleet connected on another PAT to make it 21-26. Parker Snead forced a fumble on defense to set the Warriors on offense to end the third quarter.
The Warriors opened up with a touchdown catch and a two-point conversion by DJ Cloud had Webber up 29-26 with 11 minutes to go. The Lions responded with a touchdown and two-point conversion of their own to make the final score 34-29.
Weems Jr., Griffin, and Fleurival led the Webber offense against the Lions. Weems Jr. grabbed 85 rushing yards, 38 receiving yards, and one touchdown. Griffin managed two touchdowns, rushed for 41 yards and grabbed 13 receiving yards. Fleurival had two catches for 41 yards.
Josiah Everett completed seven tackles, while Kayden and Khristian Hill both collected sacks.
Webber will be back home next week as they are set to take on Thomas University for another SUNC matchup on Saturday, October 28th at 1:30 pm.
