DELAND, Fla. – The Webber International University football team faced its first road test of the 2026 season on Saturday, traveling to DeLand, Florida, to take on NCAA Division I opponent Stetson University at Spec Martin Memorial Stadium.
The Warriors fell to the Hatters, 45-10, moving to 1-1 on the season.
Stetson jumped out to an early lead, scoring two touchdowns in the opening quarter before adding 10 points in the second to take a 24-0 advantage into halftime. The Hatters added another touchdown in the third quarter before Webber found the scoreboard early in the fourth.
The Warriors put together their longest drive of the afternoon to open the fourth quarter, marching 59 yards on 15 plays over 10:27.
Tyler Sapp capped the drive with a 38-yard field goal to put Webber on the board.
Webber added its first touchdown of the afternoon with 1:45 remaining in the contest.
Zachariah Ray finished an eight-play, 65-yard drive with a five-yard rushing touchdown. Sapp added the extra point to account for the final 45-10 score.
The Warriors were led on the ground by
D'Markus Mathis, who rushed 14 times for a team-high 51 yards.
Trent Grotjan added 38 yards on eight carries, including a team-long rush of 33 yards, while
Tommy Tipton finished with 22 yards on six carries.
Grotjan completed four passes for 46 yards, with
Kendall Johnson leading the receiving corps with a 17-yard reception. Tipton added a 12-yard catch, while
Jonye Rosebury and
Makai Elder each recorded a reception.
Webber finished with 185 yards of total offense, including 139 yards on the ground. The Warriors also controlled possession for 32:16 minutes and converted five of their 15 third-down opportunities.
Defensively,
Kaiden Morris led Webber with eight total tackles, including five solo stops.
Caden Marsh and
James Moore each added seven tackles, while
Rogers Jones and
Omar Goosby recorded six apiece.
Goosby led the Warriors with two tackles for loss and added a quarterback hurry.
Angel Cabrera recorded Webber's lone sack of the afternoon, finishing with two tackles and one tackle for loss.
On special teams, Sapp continued to handle multiple duties for the Warriors. In addition to his 38-yard field goal and extra point, Sapp punted five times for 147 yards, averaging 29.4 yards per punt with a long of 45 yards.
Isaac Dorlean led Webber with 31 kickoff return yards on two returns, including a long return of 24 yards, while Johnson added 30 yards on two returns.

Webber will remain on the road next Saturday, September 12, when the Warriors travel to Campbellsville, Kentucky, to take on Campbellsville University (Ky.). Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
