OWINGS MILLS, Md. (September 13, 2022) – The Webber International University men's beach volleyball team traveled to Stevenson University to compete in the Men's Beach Collegiate Challenge. The pairing of
Peyten Young and
Wesley Blazek earn the silver medal while
Carlos G. Jimenez and
Jackson Arnold would take home the bronze.
The top-seeded Michael Valenzi and Ryan Merk of Penn State University would defeat third-seeded Young and Blazek in the final, 2-1 (21-16, 25-27, 15-13). Young sustained an injury in the final match and the Warriors came up just short, earning silver.
Jimenez and Arnold would fall to Young and Blazek in a very contested semifinal match, but would go on to defeat Zadyn LaBreche and Jacob Miller of Lincoln Memorial University, 2-0 (21-16, 21-16), in the third-place match to bring home the bronze medal.
"The level of competition at this tournament was very high and I am proud of the guys for how they performed at the event", said Head Coach
Carlos Jimenez.
Now in its second year, the Men's Beach Collegiate Challenge lets athletes represent their schools as the sport continues to grow throughout the country. Members of the NTDP Beach Scouting Network will evaluate participating athletes for an opportunity to be invited to future National Team Development Program (NTDP) events.
Next up, the Warriors will be hosting an AVCA East tournament on the Webber Campus Beach Volleyball Courts on Friday, September 23rd and Saturday, September 24th at 8 a.m.
