AVE MARIA, Fla. (April 12, 2022) - The Webber International University women's beach volleyball team traveled to Ave Maria, Florida to take part in the Sun Conference Beach Volleyball Championship. The Warriors first took down William Carey University 3-0 in the semifinal before defeating Southeastern University 3-1 in the championship match.
WEBBER LINEUP:
SEMIFINAL MATCH: WEBBER 3, WILLIAM CAREY 0
- Lily Arnold and Cindy Garcia Penaloza were victorious in the No. 1 seed, winning in two sets, 21-8, 21-19.
- The No. 3 seed of Wandaleen Harris and Sara Weisrock would win 21-16,21-9.
- In the No. 5 spot, Brianda Valdez and Nadia Reid would win in two sets as well, 21-14, 21-17, to advance the Warriors to the championship match.
CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: WEBBER 3, SOUTHEASTERN 1
- The No. 1 seed of Lily Arnold and Cindy Garcia Penaloza would win a tight three-set match, 21-18, 16-21, 15-13.
- Bailey Sikkema and Montana-Rae Pelak would win 21-19, 21-9, to take a 2-0 lead.
- In the No. 3 spot, Wandaleen Harris and Sara Weisrock would fall in two sets, 21-13, 21-12.
- Jessica Terry and Kiersten Tisdale would earn the victory for the Warriors after winning another close three-setter, 26-28, 21-11, 15-6.
After being named Sun Conference Champions, the Warriors will now take part in the AVCA Small College Beach Championship as well as the first NAIA National Invitational. The AVCAÂ Small College Beach Championship will begin on Thursday, April 14, where Webber will open with pool play against No. 6 Corban University at 10 a.m. followed by a match against University of Mobile at 3 p.m. The NAIA National Invitational will begin the following Thursday, April 21, with pool play as well. The Warriors will first face No. 6 Corban University at 12 p.m. before taking on No. 1 Vanguard University at 2 p.m.
