Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ATLANTA, Ga. (February 6, 2022) - Following its conference-opener against Life University, the Webber International University men's volleyball team played two matches in one day, first facing Reinhardt University in another conference match on Saturday morning before battling Division-II Morehouse College in the evening. The Warriors earned their second Mid-South Conference victory of the season after a tight five set match over Reinhardt, 3-2 (27-25, 25-21, 19-25, 23-25, 19-17), followed by a 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-16) sweep of Morehouse.

The Warriors (6-3 overall, 2-0 MSC) finished with a hitting percentage of .234 compared to the Eagles (3-2, 1-1) .201 percent. Webber had a slight edge in terms of total kills (60-59), aces (11-7), as well as blocks (10-8).

In a very competitive first set, the Eagles would see themselves at match point at 24-21. Two kills from Chris Ludwig and an ace from Daniel Hermida would level the set at 24. Reinhardt would score to regain the advantage at 25-24, however, a 3-0 run from the Warriors that included an ace and a kill from Tinaishe Ndavazocheva, would earn them the victory in set number one. Webber would keep that momentum going into the second set, capturing it 25-21 and taking a 2-0 lead in the match.

Reinhardt would begin to find its footing in both of the third and fourth sets, winning set number three comfortably and holding off a late comeback effort from the Warriors in the fourth set. The two teams would head into a fifth set with the match leveled at 2-2. The fifth set was back-and-forth, both sides trading blows, with the Eagles leading 12-11 late in the set. Webber would go on a 3-0 run to take the lead and put Reinhardt's backs to the wall, leading 14-12. Two attack errors from the Warriors would level the set yet again at 14-14. After trading points, it would be all level at 17-17 before a kill from Ndavazocheva and an attack error from the Eagles would earn Webber the victory.

Ludwig led the Warriors with 15 kills and 20 digs, earning his first double-double of the season. He was followed closely behind by Hermida with 13 kills and a season-high eight aces. Peyten Young led the team with 36 assists and added five digs. Andrea Di Paola contributed on both ends with seven kills and 10 digs. Ludwig led the team with four total blocks followed by Christian Padilla and Lachlan Diamond with three each.

Webber was dominant in its match against Morehouse, fueled by aggressive serving and tallying 21 service aces in a 3-0 sweep of the Maroon Tigers.

The Warriors were led by Kevin McCarthy with seven kills followed by Jackson Arnold with five. Padilla finished with 10 assists while Piero Eletto led the team with six digs on the night. Arnold and Cesar Remedios led the team with four aces each followed by Kai Desauguste with three.

"It was an intense day for the guys with a five set win against Reinhardt that established their resiliency as a team as well as playing in a historic first match against Morehouses' brand new program," said Head Coach Carlos Jimenez. "It was a great experience for some of our new guys and a chance for our returners to lead the way. Overall, it was a very positive outcome for the tri-match."

Next up, Webber will travel to Jacksonville, Florida to face Edward Waters University for the second time this season on Wednesday, February 9th, at 6 p.m.
