Warriors defeat Edward Waters, 3-1, to earn fifth straight victory

Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (February 9, 2022) - The Webber International University men's volleyball team traveled to Jacksonville, Florida to face Edward Waters University for the second time this season. The Warriors earned the 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20) victory over the Tigers and extended their winning streak to five.

The Tigers (1-9 overall) hit slightly better in terms of hitting percentage, .248 percent compared to Webber's (7-3) .239 percent. However, the Warriors led 11-8 in service aces and 5-2 in total blocks for the game.

The Warriors started the match strong, jumping out to an early lead and capturing set number one 25-15. Edward Waters would bounce back in the second set, winning it 25-19 and leveling the match at 1-1. After hitting just .040 percent in the second set, Webber turned it around offensively and hit a much improved .385 percent in set number three en route to a 25-20 victory. Strong serving in the fourth set would lead to four aces for the Warriors and another 25-20 victory to seal the 3-1 win on the road.

Chris Ludwig led the Warriors offensively with 13 kills while adding four digs and two aces to his credit. He was followed by Daniel Hermida with eight kills and two service aces. Gunter Perea Quevedo, Tinaishe Ndavazocheva, and Peyten Young all had four kills each while Perea Quevedo led the team with two total blocks. Young led the team with 28 assists to go with his six digs and game-high four service aces. Defensively, Sabian Cardona Martinez the team with nine total digs.

"The team started out strong tonight," said Head Coach Carlos Martinez after the match. "We learned from our last match against them. We were able to fix our mistakes and implement our game plan. Now we look forward to our three conference matches this upcoming weekend and we will be looking to utilize whta we have learned so far."

The Warriors now travel to Reinhardt University where they will first face No. 13 Georgetown College on Friday, February 11th, at 12 p.m. That will not be the only match of the day however, as they will then face Bluefield College at 4 p.m. The next day, February 12th, the team then matches up against Midway University at 2 p.m.
