Men’s volleyball sweeps St. Andrews

LAURINBURG, N.C. (March 20, 2021) – The Webber International University men's volleyball team swept its sister-school St. Andrews University, winning 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 27-25) in three competitive sets on Saturday morning to improve to 9-8 overall and 7-5 in the Mid-South Conference.

It was the fourth win for Webber in its last five matches and was its fifth win in seven matches while St. Andrews fell to 6-8 overall and 5-6 in the MSC.

Daniel Hermida led the Warriors by recording his first double-double of the season as he finished with a match-high 13 kills and had a team-high 11 digs, all while hitting .500 percent. Hermida also added five service aces and had two blocks.

Zachary Ayala added 11 kills, hit .308 percent and had three blocks while Gunter Gerea Quevedo had six kills and two blocks.

In all, five Warriors had at least two blocks as Peyten Young and Justin Beecher also got into the action defensively.

Tim Rouch Jr. led the Warriors in assists with 17 and added five digs while Daniel Suarez finished with seven digs.

Head Coach Carlos Jimenez said, "The team was able to get the two wins this weekend, which puts us in a better spot as we head into the POD event next week. We are looking forward to maintaining a top-five seed as we head into the final round of the regular season."

Next up will be the Warriors' third trip to Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia, this season as Webber completes in its second POD Tournament hosted by Reinhardt on Friday, March 26, and Saturday, March 27.
