Webber softball goes 3-1 at Bear Creek Tournament; takes down two nationally-recognized teams

ONEIDA, Tenn. (February 23, 2020) – At the Bear Creek Tournament hosted at the Bear Creek Sports Complex in Oneida, Tennessee, the Webber International University softball team earned two wins against teams receiving votes in the 2020 NAIA Softball Coaches' Top 25 Preseason Poll and finished the tournament 3-1 overall. On Saturday, February 22, Webber defeated nationally recognized Taylor University 4-2 before falling to another nationally-recognized team and the host of the tournament, the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.), by a score of 5-4 after giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Then, on Sunday, February 23, the Warriors earned a 5-3 win over nationally-recognized Lawrence Tech (Mich.) before defeating Thomas More University 12-0 in five innings during their final game of the tournament.

COACH'S CORNER: "We were very proud of the girls this weekend," said Head Coach Kristy Burton. "We were out of our element being in the cold weather, but the girls came ready to play. Our bats came alive and stayed alive throughout the weekend while the pitching staff worked great as a staff to keep us in every game. It was tough to suffer our first loss this season but it was a great game against a great team. We answered nicely to the loss last night with today's action. Most importantly, we had a great time and had the best fans in the world out there supporting us. Thank you to everyone who made the trip out to support us. We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday."
