Kristy Burton joined Webber International University as the Warriors Head Softball Coach in August of 2018.
In 2021, Coach Burton's Warriors went 15-9 in The Sun Conference during the regular season to claim the team's first regular-season conference championship since 2012. In addition to putting four players on the all-conference first-team, Mary-Margaret Maggard was named TSC Player of the Year, Emma Maitland earned TSC Pitcher of the Year, and Coach Burton was the TSC Coach of the Year. The Warriors finished the season 30-24 overall, but fell in the TSC Tournament Championship game.
Before that, Coach Burton's first season with the Warriors in 2019 was a great success as Webber tied for third in The Sun Conference during the regular season and was only two outs away from advancing to The Sun Conference Tournament Championship game. Additionally, the Warriors earned at least one win over all nine teams from the conference during the regular season, including winning three of its four meetings against both Polk County rival Southeastern University and Crooked Lake rival Warner University.
Coach Burton spent the previous two seasons as an assistant softball coach at NCAA Division-I Southeastern Louisiana University (SELU). In 2018, the Lady Lions went 38-19 overall and 18-9 in the Southland Conference en route to breaking 26 school records and finishing second in the conference in the regular season. In both of her years in Hammond, Louisiana, SELU led the nation in stolen bases.
Before making the jump as an NCAA D-I assistant coach, Burton served as the head coach at NCAA D-II Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina. She has also coached at NJCAA Marion Military Institute, NJCAA Alabama Southern Community College, Mary G. Montgomery High School, and the Southern Spirit 14U travel ball team, all in Alabama.
In addition to her coaching experiences post-graduation in which she has attempted to expose herself to many different levels of softball to gain a better understanding of the game, Coach Burton regards her three years as a manager at nationally ranked NCAA D-I the University of South Alabama as one of the most important coaching opportunities in her career so far.
During Burton’s time at South Alabama, the Jaguars won two Sun Belt Conference championships and hosted an NCAA Softball Regional.
Burton’s playing career included stints at NCAA D-II Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina, and at NJCAA South Carolina-Lancaster.
Coach Burton earned her degree from the University of South Alabama in exercise science in 2014, and she is currently working towards her Master of Science degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia University Irvine.
