Undefeated Webber men’s volleyball set to host MSC Pod Tournament this weekend

BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 13, 2020) – The undefeated Webber International University men's volleyball team will play host to seven matches in two days as the Warriors host their first Mid-South Conference Men's Volleyball POD Tournament. In addition to the hometown Warriors, other teams involved include Warner University, Midway University, Life University and Bluefield College.

Playing in its first season under new head coach Carlos Jimenez, Webber is currently 4-0 on the season with three straight 3-1 wins over three NCAA schools followed by a 3-0 sweep over nationally-recognized St. Andrews University in its conference opener. Warner is 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the MSC, Midway is 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the MSC, Life is 3-4 and 1-1, and Bluefield is 0-3 overall.

"The team is looking forward to hosting the POD tournament and it should be a good indicator of our performance as we get closer to the middle of the season," said Jimenez. "There should be some great matches this weekend and we hope to get the support from all the Webber community as we host our conference opponents."

As a team, the Warriors currently rank seventh in all of the NAIA in hitting percentage (.286 percent) and are eighth in service aces per set (1.67), 21st in assists per set (10.53) and in kills per set (11.60), 27th in blocks per set (1.73) and 43rd in digs per set (7.27).

Individually, junior outside hitter Daniel Hermida ranks first in the NAIA in service aces per set (.87) and is fourth in kills per set (5.00), 21st in total service aces (13) and 24th in hitting percentage (.361 percent). Additionally, senior libero Christian Alvarez-Rivero ranks 34th in the country in service aces per set (.33), junior outside hitter Orlando Fletcher ranks 39th in hitting percentage (.323 percent), junior right-side hitter Zachary Ayala ranks 40th in hitting percentage (.319 percent), senior setter Kyle Robertson ranks 40th in assists per set (5.33), junior setter Tim Rouch Jr. ranks 44th in assists per set (5.15) and junior Justin Beecher is 48th in blocks per set (.80).
