BABSON PARK, Fla. (November 18, 2020) – The first home conference game of the 2020-21 season for the Webber International University women's basketball team will also be The Sun Conference Women's Basketball Game of the Week. The Warriors are set to host the Night Hawks of Thomas University at 5:30 p.m. inside the Sabbagh Athletic Center.
Webber has started off its season 4-0 overall with four wins of over 12 points or more so far. The Warriors are also 1-0 in conference play with a 63-51 win at Ave Maria University last Thursday. Thomas, meanwhile, has yet to play a game so far this season.
Last year, the Warriors defeated the Night Hawks by scores of 61-46 at home in mid-January and then 84-64 in Georgia in the regular-season finale.
So far during the early portion of the season, Webber leads The Sun Conference in both scoring offense (75.75 points) and in scoring defense (58.25 points) per game, and is also first in scoring margin (+17.25), field goal percentage (.416 percent), 3-point percentage (.349 percent), offensive rebounds per game (20.50) and in assists per game (18.75 assists).
As a team, the Warriors have drained nine 3-pointers in each of their last two games, and their 3-point percentage of 42.9 percent (9-21) last time out against Florida College in currently the best single-game 3-point percentage among all of The Sun Conference so far this year.
Individually, senior
Paris Copeland leads the Warriors in scoring and is second in The Sun Conference at 19.25 points per game while junior
Amaya Small is second on the team and fourth in the conference at 16.00 points per game. Small also leads the league with a .571 field goal percentage while Copeland is fourth and .422 percent.
Senior
LeAndra Franklin leads the conference in both assists per game (6.50 assists) and in steals per game (4.25 steals), Small is second in blocks per game (1.50), and junior
Thalia Jackson is fifth in rebounds per game (8.00 rebounds).
Franklin's seven steals at Ave Maria and 11 assists at Florida College, along with
Dasia Wandick's .800 3-point goal percentage also at Florida College, are all individual season-highs among all players from The Sun Conference so far this season.
