BABSON PARK, Fla. (August 29, 2018) – After its season-opening 48-14 win over Kentucky Christian University on the road last weekend, the Webber International University football team will open up the home portion of its 2018 schedule with a matchup against No. 19 Campbellsville University on Saturday, September 1, at 1:30 p.m.

In addition to its customary strong defensive performance, the Warriors also showcased a new-look offensive attack in week one against the Knights.

Freshman running back Davonte Williams and quarterback Antwan Washington combined for six of the offensive touchdowns. Williams rushed for 82 yards and three touchdowns, while Washington, a run-first quarterback who only attempted eight passes against KCU, had 61 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Timothy Miller had two catches in the season opener and totaled 101 yards. His long of 57 yards went for a touchdown.

Meanwhile, the Warrior defense has carried on its long tradition of being solid, and has also been one of the top run-stoppers in the country in recent years. In 2017, Webber ranked No. 1 in the country in opponent first downs with 138. Also, the Warriors allowed only 289.9 yards per game - ranking No. 5 in the country.

Campbellsville and Webber International have met four times with the series tied, 2-2. Every game in the series has been played in September, but this will be earliest both programs have met in a season.

Webber won the first meeting, 27-16, in overtime, in Kentucky in 2005, but the Warriors were later forced to forfeit the game because of an ineligible player.

In 2006, Webber handed the Tigers a 36-0 shutout.

The series history extends beyond the football field. In 2004, Lake Wales, Florida, was hit by three hurricanes, which caused damage to the Webber International campus. Campbellsville University made a donation to the relief efforts, which Webber recognized in 2006 with a plaque, which currently hangs in the Finley Stadium press box in Kentucky.

Webber International currently has former Campbellsville defensive line coach, Vincent Davis on staff. Coach Davis has also served as the recruiting coordinator for the Warriors since January 2017.
