Webber splits matches with Division-II opponents

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 28, 2018) – The Webber International beach volleyball team played two tightly contested matches against two NCAA Division-II schools, beating Lincoln Memorial University 3-2 and falling to Saint Leo University also by a score of 3-2.

The Warriors' top two duos won both of their matches against St. Leo and Lincoln Memorial.

The No. 1 duo of Carlee Baxter and Amber Lake beat Lincoln Memorial in a three-set victory (21-16, 18-21, 15-10). The pair also beat St. Leo in a three-set victory after falling in the first set 19-21, but came back to win set two 21-16 and 15-13 in the tiebreaker set.

Additionally, the No. 2 duo for the Warriors, Emily Bowen and Hannah Tannone, also won two three-set matches with tight scores in the third sets. They defeated Lincoln Memorial 15-21, 21-11, 15-12 and then beat St. Leo in a third-set thriller 21-8, 16-21, 16-14.

Achieving the third win in the match against Lincoln Memorial was Webber's No. 3 duo, Salla Rautiainen and Laura Embry, who won by the scores of 21-18, 14-21, 15-10.

The Warriors were so close to winning both matches as the No. 5 duo just came up short for Webber as Teryn Mills and Jessica Terry lost a hard fought match 20-22, 24-22, 16-14. 

Webber beach volleyball's record moved to 5-9 overall and 3-4 at home.

Next up, Webber will head to the University of North Carolina Wilmington Dig & Dive Invitational on Friday, March 30, where it will take on three more NCAA teams, starting with NCAA Division-I the University of North Florida for the second time this season at 10 a.m. and Missouri Baptist University at 1 p.m. The Warriors will continue the Invitational on Saturday, March 31, at 8:30 a.m. against D-II Carson-Newman University and then finish against D-I the College of Charleston at 1 p.m.
