BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 26, 2018) – On Sunday, March 25, the Webber International University women's and men's tennis teams were both swept 9-0 by NJCAA powerhouse ASA College (Miami) on Webber's Campus Tennis Courts.

The match, however, hopefully has the Lady Warriors warmed up for an important Sun Conference matchup on Wednesday, March 28, when Webber travels to Brunswick, Georgia, to fight for a postseason berth.

The Lady Warriors' season so far has consisted of matches with five nationally recognized teams in the NAIA, including a win over then-ranked No. 22 Saint Thomas University; two of the top junior college programs in the country, one of which was a win; and six matches against NCAA Division-II teams, two of which were also wins.

Most recently, Webber has played against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a very strong NCAA D-II program, and ASA College, which is ranked No. 3 in the nation in its division of the NJCAA.

Head Coach Otis Cutshaw hopes the tough schedule and recent matches against strong competition will help prepare his Lady Warriors for Wednesday's TSC match with the College of Coastal Georgia as a win will put the Warriors in the driver's seat to securing the fourth and final spot in The Sun Conference Tournament.

During Sunday's match with ASA, Juliana Fuentes netted more than half of Webber's points in the match with a 6-0, 7-5 defeat at No. 5 singles.

On the men's side, Ivan Bonderanko won a tiebreaker in set number two and nearly came from behind to pull off an upset at No. 2 singles before falling in a nail-biting super tiebreaker 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (11-9).

Bonderanko at his partner at No. 1 doubles, Hugo Hasegawa, fell 8-6 to the No. 1 duo from ASA. In their division of the NJCAA, the ASA men are ranked No. 2 in the country.

The Warriors are currently 5-10 overall and 2-4 in conference on the men's side while the Lady Warriors are 5-12 and 2-4.

Webber's opponent in two days, Coastal Georgia, is 8-5 and 5-1 on the men's side and is 4-10 and 3-3 on the women's side.

The Webber women sit one match behind the Mariners for the fourth and final spot in the TSC Tournament, and a win for the Warriors would not only tie them with Coastal Georgia, but would provide the Warriors with an important tiebreaker among the other two teams in contention for the final postseason spot.

Coach Cutshaw said "We're excited to be playing Coastal this week and finishing up our season in The Sun Conference. We have played a tough schedule this year with a number of nationally ranked teams from different divisions, which was challenging at times to push our players to become match tough."

Webber and Coastal Georgia will square off at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28 at the Marta B. Torrey Tennis Complex.
