Warrior of the Week: Jenna Fosdick

3/9/2020 8:43:00 PM

BABSON PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2020) – Congratulations to Jenna Fosdick for being named this week's Warrior of the Week by Webber International University Athletics. Jenna is a senior from Draper, Utah, and plays on the women's tennis team.

Jenna has had a brilliant start to her senior season and is leading the women's tennis team in singles victories with a 6-5 overall record. Fosdick has been on a tear as of late, winning three singles matches in a row coming into this week. On Friday, March 6, Jenna won her fourth doubles match in a row and was victorious 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles to help Webber defeat NCAA Division-III Regis College 6-1 and earn its first team win of the season.

Most recently on Saturday, March 7, Jenna won in the No. 3 singles spot against West Chester University of Pennsylvania in a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8).  Jenna is very happy with her personal performance so far this season saying, "I've had a lot more wins individually so far compared to any other season, but as a team we're struggling to put it all together at the same time."

This season Jenna has partnered with freshman Lily-Rose Rochat for doubles and says that she really likes doubles a lot, and that it is probably one of her favorite aspects of tennis overall. She said, "I like doubles a lot because having a partner brings in more of the team aspect to the sport." Jenna and Lily were on a four-match winning streak until Saturday against West Chester University of Pennsylvania.

Jenna grew up in Draper, Utah, a town just outside of Salt Lake City, Utah. Her dad, Tim Fosdick, played collegiate tennis at Cal Poly before turning professional and still continues to play tournaments to this day. Naturally, Jenna followed in his footsteps and began playing tennis at the age of only five years old. Jenna says her dad is her role-model and thinks his passion for the game and the fact he still plays today is admirable.

Jenna came to Webber as a sophomore having spent her first year of college playing tennis at Dixie State University, an NCAA Division-II school in Southern Utah. After her freshman year, Jenna had plans to transfer somewhere new but it wasn't until late August of 2017 where Webber became an option for her. Jenna received an email from Coach Otis Cutshaw at 11 p.m. one night saying that he had seen Jenna on a recruiting website and thought she would be a great addition to the Webber women's tennis team. Coach Cutshaw and Jenna exchanged emails back and forth for about a week before Jenna decided that Webber seemed a good fit for her and without visiting, she committed to play. Jenna and her dad quickly packed up all her belongings and made the 36-hour drive from Salt Lake City, Utah, to Babson Park, Florida, to start her new life as a Warrior.

Jenna is loving life in Florida, especially the beaches and cities it has to offer. Her favorite memory since making the move was her first time going to the beach in October of last year. She could not believe that she was at the beach in the month of October and that the water was still so warm. She said this was when she thought to herself, "Yes, I'm going to live here."

Jenna studies marketing management and chose this major because "it sounded like an interesting, creative degree, and there's a lot of job opportunities you can get with it." She has really enjoyed all her classes and says her favorite classes are Dr. Tonya White-Johnson's classes as they are both informative and fun.

Jenna's advice to future student-athletes coming to Webber is to make the most of the "smallness" of Webber. "Webber is actually really great," said Jenna. "I've been to both a big school and now a small school and everything here is much more personalized." Jenna's favorite quote is "you didn't come this far to only come this far", and her biggest motivation right now is seeing how close she is to graduation. Jenna is in her final semester of undergrad, and she is excited to enter into a new chapter of her life.

Congratulations to Jenna Fosdick on being named Warrior of the Week. Jenna and the women's tennis team are in the middle of their season, so stay on the lookout for updates. In just one week, the Warriors will be traveling to Hilton Head, South Carolina, for a busy week of spring break tennis.
