BOCA RATON, Fla. (March 9 2018) – The fourth win of the season and third win over an NCAA Division-I team for the duo of
Carlee Baxter and
Emily Bowen highlighted the opening day of action for the Webber International University beach volleyball team at the Florida Atlantic University Burrow Beach Bash. The Warriors fell to host FAU 4-1 in the morning, and then lost to another NCAA Division-I school, Florida Gulf Coast University, 5-0, later on in the afternoon.
Against FAU's No. 1 duo, Baxter and Bowen came out on top in a close opening set 21-19, dropped the second set 15-21, and then rallied together to win the final set 15-12.
Previously this year, Baxter and Bowen had defeated the top duos from NCAA D-I schools University of North Florida and Morehead State University, and NCAA D-II Florida Southern College.
Also against the Owls,
Laura Embry and
Salla Rautiainen put up a fight but fell in straight sets at the No. 3 spot 21-16, 21-15.
Against FGCU,
Amber Lake and
Hannah Tannone won their first set to force a third frame at the No. 2 position before falling 18-21, 21-9, 15-10, and
Teryn Mills and
Jessica Terry fell in a very close second set in the No. 5 spot (21-15, 22-20).
Webber will remain in Boca Raton, Florida, for one more match as the Warriors take on yet another NCAA D-I opponent, Houston Baptist University, on Saturday, March 10.
