BABSON PARK, Fla. (February 27, 2018) – The 2018 Webber International University women's tennis team began the 2018 season on a mission to play higher quality competition in an effort to be a better team toward the end of the season, and that is what the Warriors are going through right now. The Webber women's tennis team fell to No. 18 Brenau University by a score of 9-0 to finish off a stretch where the Warriors faced four nationally ranked opponents in their first five matches of the season.

Despite three 9-0 losses against nationally ranked teams early on, including defeats to the No. 3 and No. 5 teams in the NAIA, Webber (1-4) came through with its first win against the 22nd-ranked team in the country, Saint Thomas University, on February 17.

The tough stretch of opponents for the Warriors has already paid dividends as Emily John was named The Sun Conference's Women's Tennis Player of the Week on February 19 while Isabelle Niehoff and Svenja Koenig have teamed up for two wins at No. 2 doubles and Juliana Fuentes has earned two wins at No. 5 singles.

Under the direction and guidance of new Head Coach Otis Cutshaw, Webber is well on its way to surpassing last season's win total of two, and has already matched its conference win total from a year ago.

Against the Tigers on Tuesday, John put up a good fight at No. 1 singles, falling 6-3, 6-3 while Jenna Fosdick did the same at No. 3 singles, falling 6-4, 6-2. Niehoff and Koenig won Webber's only points in doubles action, falling 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles spot.

Next up, the Webber women's tennis team will join the men against Sun Conference rival Warner University tomorrow, Wednesday, February 28. The Warriors and the Royals will begin play at 10 a.m. on Webber's campus tennis courts.
