Box Score 3 BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International baseball took 2-3 form the visiting Keiser University Seahawks. Webber (24-5, TSC 7-2) lost to Keiser (21-10, TSC 8-3) in an 11 inning thriller last night 3-2. The Warriors battled back today and took both from Keiser 5-4, 3-0.
GAME 1: Hunter Strikes Out 6 With 0 Earned Runs, Keiser Rips 11th Inning Thriller From Webber
Pitching was without a doubt the name of the game this weekend. The Warriors faced Kyle Keatts who threw 8.2 innings giving up 6 hits to the Warriors but struck out 14. The Warriors threw
Anthony Hunter who went 7.1 innings and only gave up 5 hits, 1 unearned run and struck out 6. The action started in the bottom of the 4
th when
Connor Clayton doubled to right center and scored
Matt Piatt. The Warriors held the lead until the top of the 8
th inning when Keiser pushed across a run and tied it up 1-1. The game found extra innings when in the top of the 11
th, Keiser scored 2 taking a 3-1 lead. Just when fans were dwindling in hope,
Jacob Lopez stepped up with 1 out and hit a single back up the middle.
Cristian Rivera then smacked a double to left center that scored Lopez.
Manny Rodriguez singled through the left side and that advanced Rivera to 3
rd. Rodriguez when then caught hanging out at first as Keiser got the second out with a pickoff.
Matt Saliba came to the plate and was hit by a pitch advancing him to 1
st.
Sjaghbar Martis was up next and he also was hit by a pitch and that loaded the bases.
Marcus Begg came shot a fly ball into right field and that ended the excitement as the Warriors dropped a heartbreaker to Keiser 3-2.
STAT LINE: Connor Clayton was the only multi-hit Warrior as he went 2-5 with an RBI.
Anthony Hunter threw 7.1 innings only giving up 5 hits and 1 unearned run while striking out 6.
GAME 2: Terron Hurls 7 Innings Striking Out 7, Begg Hits Huge 2-Run Shot, Rivera Walks Off
The Warriors came into this morning feeling the pressure, knowing they must take the series from Keiser. It was the Seahawks that struck first blood as Faneyte hit a 2-run homerun in the top of the 4
th to jump out to a 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the 7
th, the Warriors
Marcus Begg smacked an absolute no doubter to left center for a 2-run homer scoring
Sjaghbar Martis. In the top of the 8
th, Keiser pushed across 2 more giving them a 4-2 lead. Heading into the bottom of the 9
th, the Warriors need 2 to tie and 3 to win.
Jesse Coleman stepped to the plate with
Garrett Martin on 1
st and
Matt Piatt on 2
nd. He hit a single to right field that looked to be routine, it skated under the glove of the Keiser right fielder rolling all the way to the fence allowing Piatt and Martin to score and tying the game. Coleman had advance to 3
rd on the play. Coleman gave way to
Tanner Williams as a pinch runner with 1 out in the bottom of the 9
th.
Cristian Rivera stepped up and came through with a huge hit into right field that scored Williams and led the Warriors to a walk-off win in the bottom of the 9
th, 5-4.
STAT LINE: Juan Terron threw 7 innings giving up 4 earned runs and striking out 7 off 5 hits.
Jesse Coleman, along with going 1-3 at the plate with an RBI, pitched 2 scoreless innings earning himself the win as he moves to 3-0 on the year. Sjaghabr Martis went 2-3 with a run scored.
Marcus Begg was 1 for 4 with a 2-run homerun.
GAME 3: Mintell Throws 4-hit Shutout, Clayton Homers
With the series tied at 1-1, there was no one that could have predicted the outcome of game 3.
Brady Mintell hurled and absolute gem as he threw a complete 9 inning game only surrendering 4 hits and shutting out the Seahawks. It was all Warriors offensively as
Marcus Begg hit a single that scored
Manny Rodriguez in the bottom of the 3
rd inning. Following that,
Matt Piatt shot a single out to center field and that scored
Matt Saliba. In the bottom of the 6
th inning,
Connor Clayton laid into a pitch and sent it deep to center field off the hitter's eye for a solo homerun. The Warriors hung on winning 3-0.
STAT LINE: Connor Clayton had the only multi-hit performance for the Warriors as he went 2-3 with a solo homer.
Brady Mintell threw 9 innings facing only 32 batters and completing the shutout against the 5
th ranked team in the country.
FINAL THOUGHTS: Webber has now taken down two teams ranked in the top 5 in the nation in route to their 24-5 overall record. The Warriors will receive almost a full week off before they head to Thomas University for their next Sun Conference Matchup.
