Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball hosted St. Thomas, Saturday, in a crucial Sun Conference matchup. The Warriors and Bobcats were knotted up at halftime, but Webber International ratcheted up the intensity in the second half to win out, 63-49.
Jermisha Mcrae was dominant against St. Thomas, posting 16 points and nine rebounds. Deslyn Applewhaite also played well, netting 11 points on the day.
The Warriors offense was not sharp in the first quarter, scoring only eight points, but the defense played well to keep Webber International in the game. After the first 10 minutes, the Warriors trialed St. Thomas, 12-8.
The two teams traded baskets early on in the second quarter, with the Bobcats pushing ahead, 18-14, after five minutes. A 6-1 run brought the Warriors even with St. Thomas, 18-18. Webber International outscored the Bobcats 7-2, in the final minute of the first half, going into half time tied up at 25-25.
The third quarter was tightly contested, as the Warriors would take control of the game with St. Thomas staying close. The Bobcats went on an 11-3 run to open the third period, building a 36-28 advantage. Webber International's offense started clicking late in the quarter, outscoring St. Thomas 13-2 in the final three minutes putting the Warriors ahead, 41-38.
The Warriors closed the door on St. Thomas in the fourth, outscoring the Bobcats, 22-11. Webber International led the fourth quarter wire-to-wire, eventually winning out, 63-49.
