Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball hosted Southeastern, Saturday, in a crucial Sun Conference matchup. An 11-point deficit proved to be too much, as the Warriors' comeback would fall short, 73-68.
Jermisha Mcrae was dominant against the Fire, posting a career-high 21 points to go along with seven rebounds. Mar'Lisa Braxton also had a strong game, scoring 18 points and grabbing five rebounds.
Southeastern jumped out to an early lead, going up 10-5 after three minute of action. The Warriors would respond with a big 14-2 run, taking the lead at 17-12. A late layup from MCcrae would send the Warriors into the second quarter ahead, 19-18.
It would be the Fire that came out hot, opening the second quarter with a 12-4 run. Strong three-point shooting by Southeastern would send the Warriors into halftime down, 44-33.
The Warriors did well to cut into the Southeastern advantage in the third quarter, outscoring the Fire, 22-14. An 8-0 run to open the third quarter, brought Webber International within five points after trailing by 11. The two teams would go on to trade baskets, with the Fire holding a narrow, 58-57, lead with two minutes left in the quarter. Webber International closed out the quarter with two quick baskets in the paint, heading into the final period down just three, 58-55.
Webber International would remain within striking distance throughout the fourth quarter, but eventually fell to Southeastern, 73-68.
