Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber women's basketball team had a lot of energy going into their home opener due to watching and celebrating with the Webber volleyball team as they won the Sun Conference Championship right before the basketball game. With that energy the Lady Warriors battled the entire game and took a win in overtime against Taylor University (Ind.) 75-70.
The Warriors were coming off a 54-92 loss to NCAA D-I Stetson University. It was a big gap in the score, but the biggest issue for the Warriors was their turnovers. Stetson forced Webber to turn the ball over 38 times in the contest. It was very clear that the Warriors took that mindset into the next days practice. They were able to cut the turnovers to just 19 in the contest against Taylor.
Quanthavia Stalworth has been on fire for the Warriors. She leads the way in a good portion of the team statistics categories and also leads the Sun Conference in Blocks per game with 3 per game and 15 total. Against Taylor, Stalworth led the offense with 16 points and defensively had 12 rebound with 3 steals.
Amber Ferguson followed closely with 14 points of her own with 4-5 at the free throw line and 50% from the field.
The Warriors we're certainly happy to get the first home win out of the way as they have struggled out of the gate this year. Despite the now 2-4 record, Webber has played some really good teams to start the year. Reinhardt University is off to a hot start at 4-0. Southern New Orleans has a 3-1 record. Xavier at Louisiana is 2-1 and the NCAA D-I Stetson is off to a 2-0 start as well. No doubt the Warriors head coach
Grady Morrell is looking forward to the rest of the season because his team has now opened up against some of the best competition they can.
They now shift their focus to Trinity University which they play at home in Babson Park, Fla. on November 15th at 5:30 p.m. The two teams have already met earlier in the month and the Warriors defeated Trinity 100-80. Go Warriors!!!
