(24) Lady Warriors Sweep Rival Warner Royals

Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. - Playing the second match of a back-to-back, #24 Webber International University would play host to crosstown rival Warner University for the second time this season. Showing why they have had the success they have this season, the Warriors (22-2, 11-0) defeated the Royals (10-7, 6-4) in straight sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-16. Nikki McDaniel led the way with a double-double of 14 kills and 10 digs, with Tessa Colden chipping in 8 kills and Brianna Baez adding 5 kills on a .400 hitting percentage. Carlee Baxter would run the offense to the tune of 34 assists, and Michelle Calderon would have 20 digs. 


Early on in set one, the Royals would jump on the Warriors, scoring the first three points. Unfazed, Webber quickly rattled off three of their own points to tie the score, then battled back and forth. With the score at 9-8, Webber went on a 7-0 run to grab control of the set. Warner used a 4-0 run to close the gap slightly, but the Warriors would then use a 9-4 late run to close out the set and take the early advantage. McDaniel had 5 of her kills in the set, and Jade Carline added 3 of her own. 

Set two saw the Warriors race out early, scoring the first five points of the set, after a Warner side-out, the Warriors used a 4-0 run to force a Warner timeout at 9-1. The Royals would cut into the lead slightly with a 3-0 run, but Webber never truly lost control of the set, never allowing Warner to reach any closer than that. Each team would trade points through the rest of the set, with the Warriors never allowing Warner within true striking distance. They would close out the second set and further their advantage in the match on a Katie Schueman overpass kill, one of her 4 in the set.McDaniel also added 4 kills of her own. 

Set three started off with a Calderon ace, and the Warriors kept rolling from there, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. They would continue to dominate from there, going on 8-4 run to further extend their control over the match. With everything clicking on all cylinders, Webber found themselves up 20-9 late in the set. Warner would use a small run late to threaten, but the Warriors would not allow them back in, closing out the set and the match. Calderon would have 11 of her digs in the set, and McDaniel paced with 5 kills. 

Warner was led by Adrienne Czaplewski with 13 kills, and Angie Pagan-Perez chipped in with 8 kills. Raygen Lee had 18 assists, while Thalia Mendez led the defensive effort with 13 digs. 

With this win, the Warriors have set a program record for most wins in a season, eclipsing the 21 win mark set by the 2011 squad. 

Webber will return to action Saturday, traveling to (RV)St. Thomas University to play both the host school and Fisk University. The Warriors will play St. Thomas at 2:00 PM Eastern time, and follow immediately with Fisk University at 4:00 PM.
