Box Score BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball welcomed, heated rival, Warner, Saturday night. In a tightly contested game, a huge fourth quarter would push the Warriors past the Royals, 70-61.
Deslyn Applewhaite led the Warriors in points and rebounds, with 22 and nine, respectively. Jermisha Mcrae continues to by a force for the Warriors, netting 16 points and grabbing five rebounds, while going 8-11 from the free throw line.
The Royals came out firing, opening the game with a 10-0 run. A one-woman 6-0 run by Mcrae would put the Warriors right back into the match. The Warriors would continue to chip away at the early Warner advantage, eventually going into the second quarter behind, 12-11.
The lead would change six times in the second quarter, but the Warriors would go into halftime, ahead 29-28.
The Warrior were dominant early in the third quarter, pushing their lead as high as nine. A 9-2 run from Warner would cut the Webber International advantage to two points with four minutes to pay in the quarter. A questionable foul call at the end of the quarter allowed Warner to tie the game at 47-47 heading in to the final period.
The fourth quarter was neck-and-neck, with Warner pushing ahead, 58-57, with three minutes to play. The Warriors hit back with a 13-0 run, sparked by a deep Victoria Baggett three, giving Webber International a 67-58 lead. Webber International would eventually win out, 70-61.
