Warriors Lose in Overtime, 99-104

BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Webber International University Warriors basketball team hosted Crooked Lake rival, Warner University Royals in a conference matchup this evening at 7 p.m. in the Sabbagh Athletic Center.  The Royals won in overtime, 104-99. 
 
 
The Royals put the first two points on the board only to be answered by a 3-point shot by Webber's Brian Pace seconds later.  The Royals would lead in the first five minutes of play.  The Warriors took it back for a minute, 9-8 and gave it back to the Royals, 9-10.  At 13:13 left in the first half, the Dewaine Lyals helped the Warriors take a 1-point lead, 11-10, but it wasn't enough.  The Royals took over until 7:54 left in play.  Daniel Coffey made a layup and tied the game, 19-19.  The Warriors took it from there and didn't look back for the remainder of the game. The Warriors went into half time on top, 39-33. 
 
 
In the second half, the Warriors maintained their lead and with 18:25 left on the clock, the Warriors had earned a ten-point lead, 45-35.  Webber gradually began to lose its footing and at 12:03, the teams tied, 54-54.  With 15 seconds left in the game, the Warriors were up 87-85 and in the last second of the game, the Royals tied the game, 87-87 into overtime.
 
 
In overtime, the Warriors gave it over to the Royals and lost the game, 97-100. 
 
 
Leading the Warriors on the court were: Nate Morrell, with 15 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal; Raymond Durant, with 17 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists; Brian Pace, with 11 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists; Dewaine Lyals, with 18 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal; Daniel Coffey, with 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists; and Maynard Rowe, with 16 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
 
 
Webber's record 10-16 overall and 7-7 in The Sun Conference.
 
 
The Warriors will return to action on Thursday, February 12th as they host Johnson & Wales University Wildcats.  Tipoff is at 5 p.m. followed by the Lady Warriors vs. Lady Wildcats at 7 p.m.
