Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla. – Webber International University football hosted the Newport News Apprentice School, Saturday. The Warriors controlled the game on both sides of the ball, taking down the Builders, 42-3.
Webber International used the ground game to wear out Newport, posting 370 yards and five touchdowns. Darius Page led the way with 150 yards and a touchdown, while Brendan Deshields rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown.
The Warrior defense was stout, limiting the Builders to 272 yards and three points. Tyson Burch led the way with nine total tackles and a sack.
The first quarter saw the two team feel each other out. The Warriors were first to score, crossing the goal line with two minute left. A 44-yard run from Page set up a first and goal for Webber International, with Billy Pavlock scoring from 10 yards out. The huge run from Page put him over 1,000 yards for the season, becoming the first player in program history to achieve the feat.
The Warriors took control of the game in the second quarter. Newport converted a short field goal to open the quarter and would not score again. Webber International responded immediately, after Deshields led the Warriors down the field for his first touchdown of the day. Just before half time, Pavlock connected with Nick Marill on a six-yard pass, sending Webber International into the locker room with a 21-3 lead.
The third quarter saw great defense from both teams, seeing no scoring.
Webber International's offense exploded in the fourth quarter, crossing the goal line three times. Page closed out a historic day with a touchdown early in the fourth, pushing the Warrior lead to 28-3. Garry Chouloute came into the game in the final quarter. In his first drive he led a touchdown drive, running it in himself from eight yards out. Freshman Roodson Pierre took his first career carry 35 yards for a touchdown, sealing the Warriors, 42-3, victory.
