Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla. – Webber International University football hosted archrival Warner, Saturday, in the third Lake Cloosa Clash. After falling behind early, the Warriors stormed back and saw a game-tying Warner field goal fall short as time expired, winning out 27-24.
The Warriors running game was dominate against the Royals, racking up 305 yards and three touchdowns. Darius Page closed out a historic season with a team-high 129 yards and two touchdowns. Brendan Deshields was not far behind, running for 128 yards of his own and a touchdown.
Webber International was first on the board, taking a 6-0 lead late in the first quarter. Page rushed the ball five times on the drive, punching it in from eight yards out. Defense dominated for most of the second quarter, with Warner taking a slim, 7-6, lead 25 seconds before halftime.
After the break, the Roayls wasted no time scoring again, finding the end zone on the first drive of the third quarter to go ahead, 10-6. The Warriors responded right of way, as Page broke a massive 42-yard touchdown run to put Webber International up, 13-10. The Warriors kept the momentum going, scoring on its very next drive. Deshields marched Webber International 89 yards down the field with a brusing 44-yard run and scoring from three yards out, pushing the Warrior lead to 20-10.
The Warrior's Tajghi Robertson opened the fourth quarter with a great interception, returning it 75 yards for a touchdown, giving Webber International a comfortable, 27-10, advantage. The Royals were undeterred, scoring two unanswered touchdowns to cut the Warrior lead to 24-27.
With a minute left to play Dillon Traurig boomed a great punt, pinning the Royals on their own three-yard line. Facing a third and 10, Warner's quarterback DJ Davis launched up a hail mary, completing a 54-yard pass after two Warrior defenders collided on an interception attempt. With just seconds left, Warner lined up for a game-tying field goal but were flagged for delay of game. On the second try, the Royals attempted a 52-yard field goal that feel just short as the clock hit 00:00.
The Warriors would hold on for the, 27-24, victory, returning the Lake Caloosa Clash trophy to Babson Park.
Webber International finishes the 2015 season with a 5-4 overall record and 3-2 mark against Sun Conference opposition.
