Volleyball Falls to Warner, Honor Julianne Dougherty

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University volleyball faced off against archrival Warner, Saturday afternoon, falling to the Royals, 3-0. Freshman Sophie Rossard played well posting 11 kills and eight assists, both team highs.

Before the match, Webber International honored one of the programs all-time greats Julianne Dougherty, officially retiring her jersey. As a player, Dougherty racked up over 1000 kills and 1000 digs. In her four season with the program, she led Webber International to an 84-33 overall record and a Sun Conference Championship. Dougherty continues to push the Warriors volleyball program forward as an indoor assistant coach and the sand volleyball head coach.

The Warriors played well early in the first set, finding themselves down only one, 6-5. The Royals then went on a five-point run to build an 11-5 lead. With the first set almost out of reach, Webber International stepped up, including a late four-point run to cut into the Royal lead, 20-16. The Warriors could not keep pushing, eventually dropping the set, 25-17.

The second set saw the Warriors struggle to fight off the Royals. With the score at 1-1, Warner would score 20 unanswered points, winning the set 25-7.

Webber International bounced back well in the third set, pushing Warner to the brink. The two rivals traded points throughout the set, with the Warriors ahead, 17-14, midway through. After a late service error by the Royals, Webber International found itself one point away from forcing a fourth set. Warner was able to stay in the match, winning the set, 27-25, and the match, 3-0.

The Warriors close out a three-match home stand, Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. against Florida National University.
