BABSON PARK, Fla. – Webber International University women's basketball hosts Xavier University of Louisiana, Saturday, October 31 in the first game of the 2015 season.
A Look Back
The Warriors are coming off a great season, in which Webber International went 22-7 and posted a 13-5 record in the Sun Conference. The Warriors opened the season with an amazing 11-game win streak, including four wins in conference.
Webber International would go on to win 10 more games and go into the Sun Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed. The Warriors took care of their first round match up with Florida Memorial, taking down the Lions, 61-57. Three days later, Webber International faced off with Ave Maria. In a tight game, the Warriors triumphed over the Gyrenes, 67-56, advancing to a third-consecutive championship game.
The Sun Conference championship game pitted top-seeded St. Thomas against Webber International, with the Bobcats edging the Warriors, 65-56.
Three Warrior players were named All-Conference teams for the 2014-15 season. Graduated senior LaQuandra Brazil was named First Team All-Conference, senior Deslyn Applewhaite was named Second Team All-Conference and senior Shakeria Wilson was named to the All-Defensive Team.
About Xavier University
The Gold Nuggets finished the 2014-15 season with an 18-15 overall record and a 9-5 mark in the Gulf Coast Atlantic Conference. Xavier fell one game short of a conference championship, losing to Southern University of New Orleans, 55-47.
The Golden Nuggets return their top scorer in Whitney Gathright. Gathright averaged just under 13 points a game, while shooting 40& from beyond the arch.
