BABSON PARK, Fla. – The day got off to a slow beginning for the Warriors as a storm blew through and nearby lightning delayed the start of pre-game warm-ups. Eventually it would clear and it was time to open the Webber International University Warriors 2014 football season. The first game jitters were expressed by both teams with a combined 29 penalties totaling 260 yards throughout the game. In the first half it was the Eagles that showed up ready to get going. With the help of its defensive interceptions by Ladarian Smiley, Aaron Thompson, and Dushonta Brough, they would jump out to a 24-6 lead. The Warriors in the first half managed to get their six on the board with two field goals struck by Daniel Le Zotte, the first being 30 yards and the second being 36 yards. It was Half time that left fans wondering how the Warriors would respond to being down by 18 at the start of the second half. Just as the Warriors were lining up to kick off and start the second half, the light pole that illuminates the scoreboard and the west end zone of the field decided to fail causing a 15 minute delay. It would go out two more times throughout the rest of the game causing a 15-minute delay each time. This was tough on both teams mentally and physically.

For the Warriors, the second half was a bigger improvement all the way around. The defense only let up one touchdown in the third quarter forcing several punts and the offense tacked on two of its own TD's late in the fourth. Darius Page of the Warriors led the running game with 23 carries for 83 yards and a touchdown. It was a split night at the quarterback position fielding both Luke Brigham and Billy Pavlock. Brigham #8 for the Warriors would take most of the snaps and totaled 5-12 in passing attempts, with his longest turning out to be a 47-yard completion. Unfortunately, the defensive stops and the offensive scores would not be enough for the Webber International University Warriors as they dropped their home opener to the (#10) Faulkner University Eagles 34-20.

There were 29 penalties in the game totaling a massive 260 yards. Early in the first quarter, Eagles #6 Marte Sears, starting Free Safety was ejected from the game for a targeting call. Overall the game took four hours to complete. Head Coach of the Warriors, Kelly Scott, was asked how he thought his guys did? "Well we feel that the guys established tonight who can be the most productive and where. It's simple, we've just got some more work to do," said Coach Scott

The Warriors now shift their focus to next week's game against the rivals from across the lake and the opening play of the Sun Conference, Warner University. The game is Saturday, September 6th, at 1:00 p.m. located at Legion Field. Come on out and support the Warriors!
