Box Score LAKE WALES, Fla. – The Webber International Warriors seized momentum early and never looked back as they beat the Newport News Apprentice School Builders 46-7. The offense had a season-high in total yards and rushing yards with 478 and 296 respectively.
After forcing a three-and-out defensively, the Warriors offense wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. They needed just over 3 minutes to score as
Larry Gaskins took a screen pass 44 yards to the house to an early 7-0 lead. The second touchdown for Webber International would come less than 4 minutes later when Zach Day had a 2-yard run over the goal line.
With the next two drives resulting in a fumble and a punt, Webber's defense got the scoring going again. A sack by
Edward Roberts set up the Builders at their 4 yard-line. From there,
Steven Willis batted the Jonathan Whelan pass back to him in the end zone where he was brought down for a safety by
Marquise Harts making the score 16-0. The ensuing punt was returned by Miguel Andrilli 43 yards setting the Warriors up in good field position at the Newport News 31 yard-line.
With a negative rush and a few incomplete passes, the Warriors called upon Anthony Woythal who connected on the longest field goal of his career from 49 yards out. He would later add a 30-yarder, making the score 22-0. Senior quarterback William Pavlock capped the Warriors scoring for the first half with 2 minutes left as he scurried for a 26-yard touchdown. The Warriors went into the locker room with a comfortable 29-0 lead.
If the Builders were hoping to slow down the Warriors with the break at halftime, it did not work. A 16-yard run by Pavlock, followed by a 43-yard burst by Gaskins marched Webber inside the Newport News red zone. Gaskins would rush for his first touchdown of the game from 6-yards away setting the score at 36-0.
The Builders found a way to get the pigskin across the Webber goal line with 3:35 left in the 3
rd quarter when Travis turbin caught a 25 yard pass from Whelan. That would end up being their only points for the game.
A 22 yard field goal from Woythal in the last minute of the 3
rd quarter and a 20 yard touchdown run from
Cameron Joseph with just under 3 minutes left in the 4
th were the last 10 points the Warriors would score to bring it to a close at 46-7. The offense was led by Gaskins who had 106 yards rushing and 44 receiving. Pavlock passed for 149 yards, rushed for 59 more, and scored a touchdown both ways. Mitch Choquette let the way receiving with 6 catches for 94 yards.
Defensively, Willis led the way with 9 tackles, 3 of which were for a loss, and a sack. Luckner Petitthomme and
