Babson Park, Fla. – In Lakeland, the Lady Warriors had their second consecutive come from behind win, 5-4 over Southeastern University.
With the win the WIU women are now 3-3 overall and move to 2-3 in The Sun Conference.
The Lady Warriors found themselves in an early hole, losing 2 of 3 doubles. WIU won at #1 doubles with the duo of Lauren Brink and Kammie Bilardello, 8-0.
Brink tied the match up at 2-2 with a 6-0, 6-0 win at #1 singles. The Lady Warriors lost at #3 and #6 singles, falling behind 4-2 in the match.
Anna Culaba got the WIU team back to 4-3 by winning 6-2, 6-1 at #4 singles. Senior Kammie Bilardello tied the match at 4-all when she won at #2 singles by 6-3, 6-2 score. For the second straight match the Lady Warriors fate was in the hands of Zulema Robles, at #5 singles.
Robles responded with a 6-1, 7-6(5) win to give Webber a 5-4 victory.
“Another match, anther thriller,” stated Webber Coach,
Bill Heath.
“Zulema must have ice water in her veins because she is so tough under pressure,” added Heath.
The WIU women's tennis team has exceeded their win total from last season, as they only had two wins in 2009.
“We are missing our #2 player today, and she will be out until mid-March, but these girls play with a lot of pride and we will continue to improve as the season progress,” stated Heath.
