MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — The Webber International University women's volleyball team opened Sun Conference play Friday afternoon, battling St. Thomas University before falling 0-3 (12-25, 20-25, 19-25) at the St. Thomas University Gymnasium.
The Warriors entered the conference matchup looking to build on their early-season experience and competed throughout all three sets against the Bobcats.
Webber found its strongest offensive rhythm in the second set, recording 11 kills while keeping the Bobcats within striking distance for much of the frame. The Warriors finished the match with 26 kills, three service aces and five total blocks.
Hailey Mull, Yaleesmar Rivera Rosa and Ninette Romero Lopez led the Warriors offensively with five kills apiece. Cassandra Kendall added four kills while hitting .500 on the afternoon.
Rivera Rosa also provided a strong all-around performance, recording nine digs to lead Webber defensively while contributing a service ace. Kalyn Morgan added six digs and recorded one ace, while Naylim Andrews also finished with a service ace.
Lucianna Marinella directed the Warriors' offense with 10 assists, while Katelyn Bobo contributed seven assists. Brianna Adams anchored the blocking effort with three total blocks, while Mull and Kendall each added two.
Webber showed stretches of competitive play throughout the match and will look to regroup as the Warriors continue their conference schedule.
Webber International falls to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in Sun Conference play, while St. Thomas improves to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in conference action.
