Warriors Split Final-Day Matches at Faulkner Invitational

Webber sweeps Talladega before falling to William Carey in four sets

MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Webber International University women's volleyball team split its two matches on Saturday at the Faulkner Invitational, sweeping Talladega College 3-0 before falling to William Carey University 3-1.

The Warriors opened the day with a dominant 25-14, 25-16, 25-22 sweep of Talladega. Webber controlled the match offensively, finishing with 41 kills while hitting .204 as a team. The Warriors also held Talladega to a .056 hitting percentage.

Hailey Mull led Webber with 10 kills, while Kara Doan added nine and Ajhanae Momperousse finished with eight. Katelyn Bobo and Lucianna Marinella directed the offense with 17 and 16 assists, respectively. Alejandra Aponte anchored the defensive effort with 17 digs and added four service aces.

Webber carried its momentum into the afternoon against William Carey, taking the opening set 25-21. The Warriors battled throughout the remainder of the match, but William Carey claimed the next three sets, 25-23, 28-26 and 26-24, to earn the 3-1 victory.

Despite the loss, Webber's offense produced 50 kills and a .167 hitting percentage, while the Warriors recorded 94 digs and seven blocks.

Mull paced the Warriors with a match-high 14 kills, while Jennifer Ninette Romero Lopez recorded 13 kills and Momperousse added 12. Bobo finished with 24 assists, while Aponte posted a team-high 28 digs. Samantha Gomez and Stacy Maimur also contributed to the Warriors' efforts throughout the day.

With Saturday's results, Webber moves to 4-4 on the season.

The Warriors return to action on September 4 when they travel to Montgomery, Ala., to take on Faulkner University.
