MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Webber International University women's volleyball team dropped its opening two matches at the annual Faulkner Invitational on Friday, falling to host Faulkner University, 3-1, before dropping a 3-0 decision to the University of Mobile.
WEBBER 1, FAULKNER 3
The Warriors opened tournament play against host Faulkner, battling the Eagles through four competitive sets.
Faulkner took the opening two sets, 25-23 and 29-27, before Webber responded with a 25-19 victory in the third set to extend the match. The Eagles closed out the fourth set, 25-21, to secure the 3-1 victory.
Ajhanae Momperousse led the Warriors offensively with 11 kills while hitting .313 for the match. Kalyn Morgan added nine kills, while Hailey Mull finished with six kills.
Defensively, Alejandra Aponte turned in a standout performance with a match-high 30 digs. Katelyn Bobo added 17 digs, while Lucianna Marinella recorded 13.
Marinella paced the Warriors with 23 assists and five service aces, while Bobo added 14 assists. Aponte contributed six assists, three service aces and her team-leading defensive effort.
At the net, Mull and Cassandra Kendall each recorded three blocks as Webber finished the match with six total blocks.
WEBBER 0, MOBILE 3
Webber returned to the court Friday evening against Mobile, but the Rams came away with a 3-0 victory by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-13.
Momperousse once again led the Warriors' attack, recording seven kills. Stacy Maimur added three kills, while Morgan and Kendall each contributed two.
Kendall led Webber at the net with three blocks, while Brianna Adams and Adriana Tiedt each recorded two blocks.
Aponte continued her strong defensive day with a team-high 15 digs. Marinella added seven digs and seven assists, while Bobo paced the Warriors with nine assists.
With the two results, Webber moves to 3-3 on the season heading into the final day of the tournament.

The Warriors close out the Faulkner Invitational on Saturday with two matches in Mobile, Ala. Webber will take on Talladega College at 9 a.m. before facing William Carey University at 1 p.m.
