Warriors Complete Sweep of Lions on the Road

Miami Gardens, FL – The Webber International Softball team completed a doubleheader sweep of Florida Memorial on Wednesday in Miami Gardens, taking game one 8-0 in six innings before rolling to a 13-3 win in five innings in the game two. The Warriors scored in every inning but the first in the opener and then exploded early in game two, as the Warriors completed the three game SUN Conference split.

In the opener, Webber broke through in the second and never looked back. The Warriors scratched across single runs in the second and third before delivering the decisive blow in a four-run fourth. Thalia Romero headlined the inning with a three-run homer to left-center that scored Sommer Zier-Norris and Aliyah Bentley, turning a tight game into a 6-0 advantage. Webber added another run in the sixth when Romero doubled and Samantha Hudson followed with an RBI single to left. Romero finished 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs, while Hudson added an RBI and Abigayle Ellison also drove in a run as part of Webber's 11-hit effort.

Taylor Thomas was dominant in the circle in game one, tossing a complete-game shutout over six innings. She allowed just three hits, walked two and struck out 10 as Florida Memorial never found an answer against the Webber right-hander. The Warriors backed her with a clean defensive effort and steady offensive pressure throughout the contest.

Game two was even more explosive for the Warriors, who plated four runs in the first, two in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the fifth on the way to 13 runs on 16 hits. Samantha Hudson delivered the biggest swing of the game, going 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs, while Dominica Kohout scored three times and Thalia Romero added two hits and two runs. Webber also got production throughout the lineup from Abigayle Ellison, Chloe Rayner, Miranda Gill and Eliana Hernandez.

The Warriors built early separation with a four-run first, then kept answering every time Florida Memorial threatened. After the Lions pushed across three runs in the bottom of the third, Webber responded by continuing to pressure the defense and stretch the margin back out. In the later innings, Miranda Gill delivered a pinch-hit RBI single and Hudson followed with another run-scoring hit, while Webber also capitalized on a Florida Memorial throwing error that brought home two runs.

Chloe Rayner started game two and Kaylee McKinney came on in relief as Webber limited Florida Memorial to three runs despite a brief third-inning rally. The Warriors' offense was the story of the finale, though, as Webber piled up extra-base hits and constant traffic on the bases to finish off the sweep in run-rule fashion.
