Ave Maria, FL – The Webber International Softball picked up a 2-0 SUN Conference road win over Ave Maria on Wednesday behind a combined shutout and timely hits in the middle innings. The Warriors scored once in the third and once in the fifth, then closed out the sweep-minded victory with clean defense and strong pitching throughout to secure their second straight SUN Conference series.
Aliyah Bentley helped spark the first run when she doubled to left center to open the third. After Sommer Zier-Norris moved her to third with a sacrifice bunt, Thalia Romero lined an RBI single to left to put Webber in front 1-0. In the fifth, Romero struck again with a one-out double to right center, and Samantha Hudson followed with an RBI single to left to bring home the Warriors' second run.
Romero led Webber at the plate by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, while Hudson finished 2-for-4 with an RBI. Bentley also had a strong day, going 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored as Webber totaled eight hits.
In the circle, Chloe Rayner started and tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, allowing five hits, while Taylor Thomas handled the final 2.2 innings and struck out four to lock down the save. Together, the duo held Ave Maria scoreless on seven hits with no walks as Webber improved to 7-17 overall and 4-10 in Sun Conference play.
