Warriors Shutout Hornets at Home

Babson Park, FL – The 7th ranked Webber International Flag Football team used a dominant defensive effort and three touchdown passes from Luzariana Herrera to post a 19-0 shutout over NCAA Division 1 Alabama State on Saturday in Babson Park. The Warriors struck twice in the opening quarter and added another score in the third, while the defense repeatedly forced Alabama State into negative plays and turnovers. The win for the Warriors also notched Head Coach Jeff Melesky his 60th as the Webber Coach.

Webber got on the board late in the first quarter after taking over near midfield and marching 41 yards on seven plays. Herrera opened the drive with an 11-yard completion to Cheyenne Durand, and the Warriors eventually finished it with a five-yard touchdown pass for a 6-0 lead with 6:35 left in the quarter. Just moments later, Kaitlyn Sigmundi intercepted an Alabama State pass and returned it 17 yards to the Hornets' 13-yard line, setting Webber up in prime field position again. Four plays later, Herrera connected with Durand for a seven-yard touchdown on fourth down, stretching the lead to 13-0 with 4:35 remaining in the first.

After a scoreless second quarter, Webber put the game away with its opening possession of the second half. The Warriors went 66 yards in eight plays, with Herrera finding Durand and Rylee Bolser on multiple chain-moving completions before hitting the end zone again at the 7:32 mark of the third. The touchdown pushed the advantage to 19-0 and capped Webber's final scoring drive of the day.

Bolser led the Webber receiving corps with 10 catches for 77 yards and a touchdown, while Durand added seven receptions for 44 yards and two scores. Sigmundi contributed five catches for 35 yards, added an interception return of 17 yards. Herrera finished 27-of-37 passing for 221 yards and three touchdowns to pace a Warriors offense that totaled 201 yards.

Defensively, Webber never allowed Alabama State to break through, holding the Hornets to 74 total yards and forcing multiple turnovers. Kahliya Gaitor recorded three tackles and two sacks, while the Warriors also got strong defensive efforts from Kwanesha Bonelli, Ijyana Edwards, Savannah Cox, and Sigmundi. Alabama State managed just 45 passing yards and 29 rushing yards as Webber controlled the game from start to finish to secure the shutout victory.
