Warriors Fall Late to Cougars

Columbia, MO – The 8th ranked Webber International Men's Lacrosse team dropped a heartbreaker to Columbia on Monday afternoon. A late equalizer was not enough as the Warriors fell 10-9.

The Warriors came out sharp and struck first on a goal from Jeremiah Loo just 38 seconds into the contest, then answered every early push to take a 4-2 lead after the first quarter. Loo scored twice in the opening frame, while Benjamin Sheldon and Isaiah Espaillat also found the back of the net to give Webber the early edge.

Columbia trimmed the margin in the second, but Webber carried a 5-4 advantage into halftime after Loo completed his hat trick early in the period. The Cougars' momentum swung the game coming out of the break, as Columbia posted a 4-1 third quarter to move in front 7-6 heading to the fourth.

Webber battled back down the stretch behind Nick Sheaffer, who finished with three goals and an assist, including a late equalizer with 3:17 remaining to make it 9-9. Columbia, however, got the decisive tally with 1:37 left and held on in the closing minute to secure the one-goal win.

Loo paced the Warriors offensively with four goals and an assist, while Sheaffer added his three-goal night and Sheldon/Espaillat each chipped in a goal. In goal, Liam Murphy turned in a strong performance with 13 saves.
