Warriors Split SUN Opener with Seahawks

West Palm Beach, FL – The Webber International Baseball team split its Sun Conference doubleheader at Keiser on Thursday, taking the opener 11-6 before falling 8-3 in the seven-inning nightcap. In Game 1, the Warriors piled up 18 hits and scored in six different innings, while Keiser answered in Game 2 with a seven-run second inning that swung the split.

In the opener, Webber struck first and never trailed for long, posting single runs in the first and eighth innings, two runs in the second, fifth and sixth, and three more in the ninth on the way to the 11-6 win. Mike Cuello powered the offense with a 4-for-6 day, four runs scored and three RBI, including a home run, while Keegan Martin went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two walks and two runs scored. Austen Jaslove also had a big afternoon, finishing 3-for-6 with a homer and two RBI as the Warriors' lineup kept pressure on Keiser throughout the day.

Webber also got strong production throughout the lineup in Game 1, with Ty Mathews collecting two hits, Jalen Martinez scoring twice, and the Warriors swiping six bases as a team. On the mound, Webber held Keiser to six runs despite 13 Seahawk hits, with Gregory Bori covering 2.2 innings in relief and striking out four.

The nightcap started well for the Warriors, who used a three-run second inning to jump in front. Skyler Schulz drove in the first run with a single to right, then David Zamora followed with a two-run single to give Webber a 3-0 advantage.

Keiser answered immediately, however, erupting for seven runs in the bottom of the second and adding another in the third to claim the 8-3 win. Webber was limited to just four hits in the second game, with Schulz and Zamora each driving in runs and Tugg Hollandsworth and Ty Mathews adding one hit apiece. Ryan Franklin took the loss after allowing eight runs over 2.1 innings, while Austin Dobbins provided relief for the Warriors.
