Warriors Split Opening Day Doubleheader

Babson Park, FL – Webber International split a Friday doubleheader with Florida National, walking off Game 1 with a seventh-inning rally before dropping Game 2, 5-2.

 

Game 1: Webber 6, Florida National 5

The Warriors struck first in the opening inning when Thalia Romero launched a two-run homer to center to put Webber on top early.

Florida National answered with a run in the second on an RBI single, but Webber responded immediately in the bottom half as Dominica Kohout ripped a two-run double down the left-field line to push the lead to 4-1.

FNU chipped away with a sacrifice fly in the third, then grabbed momentum in the fifth when White connected on a three-run home run to turn a two-run deficit into a 5-4 lead.

Down to its last inning, Webber delivered the late punch. In the bottom of the seventh, A. Bentley drove a two-run triple to left to bring home the tying and winning runs and complete the walk-off, 6-5.

Notables (Game 1):

  • Kohout: 2-for-4, 2 RBI (2B)
  • Romero: HR, 2 RBI
  • Aliyah Bentley: walk-off 2-RBI triple
  • Taylor Thomas: complete game with 11 strikeouts in 7.0 IP

 

Game 2: Florida National 5, Webber 2

Florida National opened the scoring in the first inning, using a Webber error to plate an unearned run. The Conquistadors stretched the lead in the third on a two-run homer from G. Hall to make it 3-0.

Another unearned tally came in the fifth, and FNU added an insurance run in the seventh on an RBI single to take a 5-0 cushion.

Webber mounted a two-out push in the bottom of the seventh. Bentley delivered an RBI single, and Romero followed with an RBI knock to center to bring the Warriors within three. Webber threatened for more, but Florida National escaped to secure the split.

  • Romero: 2-for-4, RBI
  • Samantha Hudson: 2-for-3, scored
  • Abigayle Ellison: 6.1 IP (3 ER), with 2 unearned runs scoring in the game
