Warriors Drop Doubleheader to Eagles

Montgomery, AL — Webber International dropped a pair of tight games to Faulkner on Friday at Harrison Field, falling 8-7 in the opener (7 innings) before coming up short in a wild nightcap, 15-13.

Game 1 — Faulkner 8, Webber 7 (7 innings)

Faulkner jumped out early with three runs in the first and added three more in the third to build a 6-0 advantage. Webber chipped away in the fourth when Austen Jaslove ripped a two-run double down the left-field line to score Jalen Martinez and David Zamora, cutting the deficit to 6-2.

The Warriors kept pressing in the fifth as Martinez delivered an RBI single to bring home Keegan Martin, making it 6-3. Webber saved its biggest swing for the seventh, erupting for four runs to briefly take the lead. Martinez struck again with a two-run double to plate Martin and Tugg Hollandsworth, then Mike Cuello followed with a two-run double to score Martinez and Zamora as Webber surged in front 7-6.

Faulkner answered in the bottom half with the deciding rally, using back-to-back RBI singles from J. Carter and E. Martínez to walk it off, 8-7.

Webber got on the board in the third when Fabian Amaro launched a two-run homer to center, scoring Nomar Vazquez ahead of him. The Warriors then flipped the game on its head with a massive 10-run fifth inning. The outburst included a three-run homer by Cuello, a two-run double from Vazquez, and a string of run-producing plate appearances that vaulted Webber into the lead.

Webber carried the advantage into the late innings and added another run in the seventh, but Faulkner stayed within striking distance and then pulled ahead for good with a five-run eighth.
