MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The 8th ranked Webber International Baseball team plated the go-ahead runs late and got a strong effort on the mound to secure a 4-2 win over Faulkner on Saturday afternoon at Harrison Field.
The game was scoreless through five before the Lions struck first with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Webber answered right back in the top half, as Keegan Martin delivered an RBI single to right to bring home Tugg Hollandsworth and cut the deficit to 2-1.
Webber evened the score in the seventh when Kaleb Henry singled to right-center to score Trevor Murray, making it 2-2. The Warriors then took control in the eighth, getting an RBI double from David Zamora and a sacrifice fly from Ty Mathews to push the lead to 4-2.
On the mound, Ryan Franklin worked 6.0 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with five strikeouts. The bullpen trio of Tyler Helton, Brandon Vazquez, and Steven Rojas combined for three scoreless innings to close it out, surrendering just one hit while striking out four.
Offensively, Hollandsworth paced Webber with a 3-for-4 day including a double and a run scored, while Martin finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Webber improved to 3-3 on the season with the victory.
