Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Men's Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 AAC decision to Truett McConnell on Friday night in Babson Park, with Webber earning a set-two response before the visitors closed the match in four.
Truett McConnell struck first by taking the opening set, 25-19, using a late surge to pull away from a 19-19 tie. The Bears got rolling behind Alex Bosman's offense down the stretch, then ended the set on a service ace.
Webber answered in the second, controlling the tempo in a 25-17 win to even the match. The Warriors finished the set strong with a service ace from Noah Riascos and used pressure at the line to force multiple late errors, before Tinashe Makona put it away with a kill.
The turning point came in a tight third set that pushed beyond 25. Webber fought through several ties late—Makona and the block helped keep the set level at 25-25—but Truett McConnell finished it off with a Bosman kill and a set-clinching ace to take a 27-25 win and regain the lead.
In the fourth, Webber made one more push, trimming a late deficit to 24-23 after forcing back-to-back attack errors and getting a key block, then a Makona kill. Truett McConnell, however, found the final point on a Troy McAlister kill to secure the 25-23 set and the 3-1 match.
For Webber, Jordan Diaz led the attack with 11 kills, while Makona added seven kills and a match-high eight total blocks. Talan Stephens paced the offense with 27 assists, and Riascos led the back row with 12 digs. Truett McConnell was led by Bosman's 19 kills, and Christopher Zambrana dished out 40 assists in the win.
