Babson Park, FL – The Webber International Women's Basketball team dropped a tight Sun Conference matchup to Coastal Georgia on Wednesday evening in Babson Park, falling 73-67. The Warriors also honored their five seniors for Senior Night, Danshelle Mickel, Janaina Goncalves, Isabel Negron, Jaiden Ross, and Renae Brant.
The Warriors battled back after Coastal Georgia carried a 35-26 advantage into halftime, then trimmed the deficit to 53-46 heading to the fourth. Webber's pressure and paint presence helped swing momentum late, as the Warriors opened the final period chipping away possession by possession.
With 7:33 left, Taleah Jones knocked down a jumper to tie the game at 55-55, and moments later Janaina Goncalves finished a layup to give Webber its first lead of the night at 57-55 (6:06). Coastal answered quickly, however, using the three-point shot to regain control—Abby Shepard drilled a triple at 5:52 to put the visitors back on top, and the Mariners stayed composed down the stretch.
Webber continued to fight, getting within one at 60-59 on a Jaiden Ross layup (4:21), and later pulled to 67-64 on Camryn Patterson's finish with 1:39 to play. After Coastal extended the margin at the line, Adaya Montalvo buried a three with 11 seconds left to make it 73-67, but the Warriors couldn't generate another scoring chance before time expired.
Goncalves and Ross led Webber with 14 points apiece, while Jones added 10. Patterson paced the Warriors on the glass with 9 rebounds, and Ross anchored the defense with 4 blocks as Webber totaled 6 blocks and 12 steals. Webber won the paint battle 36-14 and scored 23 points off turnovers, but Coastal's perimeter shooting proved decisive—Coastal hit 14 three-pointers, led by Shepard's 17 points (five threes), Paris Miller's 15, and Hadiya Kennerly's 12.
