Babson Park, FL – The 8th ranked Webber International Baseball team dropped a 6-1 decision to Thomas University on Saturday afternoon. The visitors built an early cushion with a three-run second inning, then tacked on three more as the Warriors were limited to four hits.
Thomas opened the scoring in the second with a string of baserunners, highlighted by an RBI single from L. Dufresne and a two-run single from E. Garcia to make it 3-0. The Hawks added another in the third when a Webber error extended the inning and brought home a run, pushing the margin to 4-0.
Webber's pitching staff settled in as the game progressed, with Trevor Helton and Brandon Vazquez combining for four scoreless innings out of the bullpen. However, Thomas pushed across two more unearned runs in the fifth inning, taking advantage of another defensive miscue and extending the lead to 6-0.
The Warriors got on the board in the sixth. Keegan Martin worked a walk, then moved into scoring position after a single from Steven Nitch and a double steal. Ty Mathews brought Martin home on an RBI groundout to cut it to 6-1, but Thomas' bullpen closed the door the rest of the way.
For Webber, hits came from Mathews, Nitch, Jalen Martinez, and Tugg Hollandsworth, while Martin reached base twice and swiped two bags (Webber finished with four stolen bases). Thomas was led by E. Garcia (3-for-5, two RBI) and L. Dufresne (2-for-3, RBI), and the visitors allowed just one run while striking out six.
