Warriors Battle at First Day of Brescia Tournament

OWENSBORO, Ky. — Webber International Women's Volleyball battled through a five-set doubleheader on Friday, dropping tight decisions to host Brescia and to Bethel (TN). The Warriors split the first four sets in both matches but couldn't close the fifth, moving to 4–6 on the season.

In the opener, Webber fell 2–3 to Brescia (13–25, 25–23, 24–26, 25–16, 7–15). After a slow start, the Warriors answered with a gritty Set 2 and dominated Set 4 to force the decider. Outside hitter Kaylee Hunt paced the attack with 16 kills and 14 digs, while middle Raeann Savage added seven kills and six block assists. Libero Alejandra Aponte racked up 36 digs, setters Abigail Leonard (25 assists, 10 digs) and Alanys Rodriguez (14 assists) steered the offense, and middle Vivianne Cancio was a presence at the net with two solo and six block assists.

Webber surged to a 2–0 lead in the nightcap before Bethel rallied for a 3–2 win (25–20, 25–14, 22–25, 22–25, 10–15). Hunt again led with a match-high 19 kills and 21 digs, Aponte anchored the back row with 27 digs, and Leonard finished with 28 assists, 12 digs, and two aces. Savage (seven kills, six block assists) and Anna Morton (six kills, one solo and four block assists) helped the Warriors post six team blocks across the first two sets.

For the day, Hunt totaled 35 kills and 35 digs, Aponte posted 63 digs, and Leonard compiled 53 assists, 22 digs, and two aces. Savage combined for 12 block assists, Cancio added two solo and six block assists in the opener, and the Warriors finished with 101 kills, 181 digs, and 35 block assists across the doubleheader—evidence of a defense-first identity and long-rally toughness that kept them within a few points of two road wins.
